DETROIT: NEW IDENTITIES

This young company of Detroit artists are red-hot missionaries who create in broad manifestos: Their work is declaratory, individualistic, primal, and freighted with both a prickly-gender edge and an artsy wonderlust.

Detroit: New Identities is inspired by the need to label ourselves and the world we live in. Forces beyond our control often reduce the individual's agency. We are infatuated with the weight of gender especially and coming to terms with that identity as an individual, both alone and in society.

Internal vs. external, family and friends, oppression, society, and the free spirit. We all struggle with who we are and what our purpose is - our identity.
